Lake Toxaway and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains offer some of the most dynamic and varied cold and warm water fishing opportunities in the eastern half of the United States. The Region encompasses hundreds of miles of local tailwater and freestone rivers and streams and Lake Toxaway itself and through guided or self-directed trips presents Anglers with the chance of enticing a trophy or embracing that Henry David Thoreau moment where you realize that it is not fish you are fishing for.
April is one of the best months for fly fishing for Trout with May as a close follow-up. However, duing the spring through the summer and into the fall, guests can target Large and Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill and the occasional Walleye on the lake or can take a float trip down the French Broad River in search of Smallmouth Bass or even a Musky.
The High-Season offers Anglers the unparalleled opportunity to embark on guided or self-directed trips on any of the hundreds of miles of local rivers and streams in search of Rainbow, Brown or Brook trout or to float the French Broad River or Little Tennessee River to chase Musky. And don't forget, April brings on the largemouth bass season on the Lake.

Anglers seeking Rainbow, Brown or Brook trout, fall, winter and spring offer endless opportunities to explore the nearby managed Public and Private waters including the famous Davidson and Tuckaseegee Rivers in search of a bruiser or two or the chance to land numbers of trout well into the double digits. The experienced Angler may even seek higher elevations to access the remote wild streams for a “trophy” native Southern Appalachian Brook Trout.
BlueLines Fly Fishing partners with many local conservation organizations not only to preserve and enhance the local habitats but also to engage the greater Brevard and Cashiers communities and to enable the Trout populations thrive year after year. Also, Many of the Western North Carolina Mountain waters allow for limited harvesting of Trout but the Greystone explicitly advocates Catch and Release practices and prefers for its Anglers to at least pinch the barbs of their hooks if not use barbless hooks exclusively and use landing nets whenever possible to limit handling of the fish. As legendary angler Lee Wulf once put it, “The finest gift you can give to another fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn’t someone else’s gift to you”.
